Psyche in Timeless D20

Timeless d20 Character Sheet

The Psyche score represents the modifier to the twenty-sider die that the player rolls when a Timeless attempts to Bend Reality. A newly created Timeless’s initial Psyche is +0.

Bending Reality

Because Timeless live outside time and space, they can bend the laws of their current Incarnation’s reality.

  1. First the player cites the ability they want to draw upon, and the general effect they want to achieve. They negotiate with the Referee.

  2. The Referee calculates a Difficulty Factor (DC) for achieving the desired effect, counting up Boons and Banes as in the main text. Then refer to the following table to look up the DC:

  3. Once player and Referee agree on the general effect, the player rolls a twenty-sided die. To the result they add their Psyche,

  4. If the die shows a Natural 20 or the total on the die is ≥ DC, the effect happens. If the total on the die is > DC-3, a lesser version of the effect happens. Otherwise, the effect does not happen.

  5. If the die shows a Natural 1 or the total is 10 or more below the DC, the use of Psyche provoked a Backlash. A disaster of the Referee’s choice strikes the player character and maybe everyone around them. The Timeless should survive it; others may not.

Increasing Psyche

After a Quest, all participants receive a bonus to their Psyche:

Participation Bonus
Present through the Quest from start to end. +3
Present for the end of the Quest, but not the start. +2
Present for part of the Quest, but not the end. +1

After completing a Quest from start to finish, a Timeless receives +3 to their Psyche. Those who joined partway receive +2 to their Psyche. Those who participated in parts of the Quest receive only +1.
