Dwarf Defender

Stout defenders of Dwarfkind and those to whom they have sworn their loyalty.

Weapons. Club, crossbow, dagger, greataxe, hand axe, light hammer, mace, shortbow, shortsword, spear, warhammer.

Armor. All armor and shields.

Hit Points. 1d10 per level.

Languages. You speak Common and Dwarfish.

Armor Mastery: Choose a type of armor. At first level, and at every third level after that (4th, 7th, and 10th), you add +1 to your AC in that type of armor.

Blind Fighter. You can attack close targets in total darkness without Disadvantage.

Built For Lifting. You have three extra Gear Slots.

Guardian. Once per combat, you can take an attack meant for another character within close range. You defend against the attack as if it were directed at you, and if necessary take the consequences. The original target is unharmed.

Height Advantage. In close combat, creatures human height or larger attack you with Disadvantage.

Magic Resistance. You make saving throws vs. magic with Advantage. Conversely, you use all magic with Disadvantage, even magic items.

Poison Resistance. You make saving throws vs. poison with Advantage.

Short Legs. In combat you can only move near once on your action.

Unusual Build. You need clothing and armor tailored for your body shape. Add 5% to the cost of clothing and armor bought in human lands.

Dwarf Defender Talents

2d6 Effect
2 You gain one extra use of Guardian per combat.
3-6 +1 to melee and ranged attacks.
7-9 +2 to Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution stat.
10-11 Choose one type of armor; you gain +1 AC from that armor.
12 Choose a talent or +2 points to distribute to stats.

Thrown (Th). You may throw this weapon to make a ranged attack with it using STR or DEX.

Weapon types. Melee weapons (M) strike at arm’s reach, and ranged weapons (R) strike at a distance.

Range. You can use a weapon at close (C), near (N), or far (F) range (see Distances, Shadowdark pg. 85).
